Named Best Duo at the 2015 BBC Folk Awards, Josienne Clarke and Ben Walker have risen from the London acoustic circuit to become the most acclaimed new artists on the English folk scene.

Their music is characterised by lush chamber ensemble orchestrations and Ben’s intricately expressive guitar style, centred on Josienne’s exquisite and emotionally affecting voice. Her often devastatingly sad lyrics and the death-laden nature of the traditional songs they interpret are contrasted by a self-deprecating humour that’s delighted audiences wherever they’ve performed, be that on the main stages of the world famous Cambridge Folk Festival or the prestigious Purcell Rooms on the Southbank.

They cite Sandy Denny, June Tabor and Nic Jones as influences but theirs is a captivating sound that’s all their own. Their most recent album Nothing Can Bring Back The Hour deservedly received five star reviews across the board. The music of Josienne Clarke and Ben Walker is a rare and precious thing.
