We are absolutely thrilled to welcome three of the most exciting names in contemporary British folk music to Kenilworth for a special evening of live music in the beautiful Tudor Stables at Kenilworth Castle.
Headlining the event will be Rachel Sermanni. Described by The Observer as “one of Britain’s most promising Folk Artists,” Rachel has toured extensively since the tender age of 18, and has played shows in Europe, Canada, Australia and even India. Her debut album, Under Mountains, was released on Middle of Nowhere Records and Rough Trade Records in September 2012 and her follow-up, Tied To The Moon, was released in July 2015 and exhibits her creative growth as she delves into a deeper, more rhythmic flavour of sonic poetry. Alongside these two studio albums, she has also released a live album (recorded in the Yukon, only 100miles south of the Arctic circle) and three EPs. Rachel’s recorded material and live performances have attracted widespread critical acclaim from newspapers and music magazines such as NME, Clash and MOJO, the latter of which described her music as: “minimal, murky, magnificent”.
Appearing alongside Rachel will be Luke Jackson, a singer/songwriter from Canterbury, Kent. Since the release his debut album in 2012, Luke has been on tour almost constantly, playing shows throughout the UK and Europe as a headliner as well as opening for folk luminaries such as Karine Polwart, Cara Dillon and Chris Wood. He has been nominated in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for both the Horizon Award for Best Emerging Talent and The Young Folk Category, and in 2014 he was declared Fatea’s “Male Artist of the Year.” Luke has also attracted critical acclaim from a range of different sources, with Acoustic Magazine going so far as to describe him as “an outstanding heir to the likes of Richard Thompson and Martin Simpson.”
Finally, kicking the evening off will be the wonderful Kitty Macfarlane. Kitty's debut EP, Tide & Time, was released in Spring 2016 and has received glowing reviews. Kitty has opened for the likes of Seth Lakeman and Blair Dunlop, and recently completed a successful tour with folk stalwarts Kathryn Roberts & Sean Wakeman.
