Event information

The opening concert of Glasgow Songwriting Festival features Louis Abbott (Admiral Fallow), Donna Maciocia, Dave 'Solareye' Hook (Stanley Odd) and is hosted by Findlay Napier. The concert will be 'Songwriters Circle' style with the artists sharing songs from their extensive back catalogs and performing some of their favourite songs by other writers.

FINDLAY NAPIER: Glasgow based singer songwriter whose writing nestles neatly between the parallel world of folk and Americana. His most recent album VIP was #2 in The Telegraph’s top folk albums of 2015 and Maverick Magazine describes it as, “A brave, creative and smashing listen.” Findlay’s shows are about storytelling. Think campfires and tradition, past voices being handed down, characters that spring up from the soil of childhood and a curiosity-bone last seen holding up a Tyrannosaurus Rex.

DONNA MACIOCIA: Donna Maciocia is a Glasgow based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist (piano, guitar, ukulele & live-looping). Since the age of 16 she has played hundreds of gigs in different acts across the UK and abroad, has collaborated on performances and recordings with KT Tunstall, Aberfeldy, Emma Pollock, Louis Abbott (Admiral Fallow), Ross Clark (Three Blind Wolves), Jo Mango and Nizlopi (The JCB Song), amongst others, and has opened concerts for the likes of Passenger, Snow Patrol, Regina Spector, Eddi Reader and Kate Tempest.

“Donna was amazing… Man, I just adore her voice… inspiring” - KT Tunstall

She is the Principal Singing & Songwriting Tutor at the Academy of Music & Sound in Glasgow, an Associate Music & Performance Practice Tutor for the University of the Highlands & Islands, and also a regular workshop leader and musician for Vox Liminis, co-leading songwriting workshops in prisons across Scotland.

DAVE HOOK: Solareye (aka Dave Hook) is a rapper and a poet.

As lyricist and principal songwriter with Stanley Odd, he has toured the East Coast of America, played Lake of Stars Festival in Malawi and performed extensively throughout the UK at events such as T in the Park, Glasgow Green for the Commonwealth Games and a sold-out SSE Hydro.

Solareye deals in grim fairytales and unlikely truths, at once home-grown and universal – a champion of oddness and outsiderdom, channeling anger and subversive humour with sharp-eyed observation and stubborn optimism.

LOUIS ABBOTT: Best known as the angel voiced front man of Admiral Fallow, Louis is a well respected songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Aside from three fantastic albums with Admiral Fallow he has also written with Heidi Talbot and John McCusker and appears on her most recent album. He is also part of Lau singer Kris Drever's band where he plays drums
