Choral gospel soul London debut for from new Northern Irish ensemble’. Formed in 2015 Velvet Alibi is the creation of Anna Nolan and Rohan Armstrong. These NI based musicians have worked together for many years as part of the acclaimed Inishowen Gospel Choir, Anna being Co-Musical Director and Rohan, bandleader. Their shared love for the Soul and Motown classics sung by the choir, from great artists such as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin is obviously evident in Velvet Alibi’s sound, along with influences from other legends such as Chic, George Clinton and Sly and the Family Stone. Besides the choir, Rohan is a busy session bassist, whilst Anna has been writing and recording songs in many diverse projects both in London and NI over the past 20 years. The large Velvet Alibi ensemble of musicians is also bursting with talent from across the North West of Ireland with many of them making a name for themselves in other original music projects such as Comrade Hat, Captain A and Coastal. - Opening set is from popular flutist and singer SARAH CHAPLIN + OPEN MIC in the third set.
