The Nightingales- The legendary post punk Country n Midlands combo fronted by Robert Lloyd, like contemporaries in all things cerebral and agitated and post punk The Fall and Pere Ubu, only move forward, don't look back....new material always stretches the envelope as well as pushing the little fooker, hence last year's superb long player 'Mind Over Matter' released via John Robb's Louder Than War (clearly a marriage made somewhere North of the ozone layer), the latest in a quick succession of blinding albums since The 'Gales reformed 10 years back or so....no throwback retro wallowing here....from the scratchy iconaclastic schtick of their Pigs On Purpose era thru Rockin' With Rita (Ted Chippington may well be in the house ce soir) to their Noughties twisty nouveau rocknroll there is so much to enjoy with Lloyds Of Birmingham... and the 2015 model excels all that. ate doors once due to a freak amplifier/finger slicing episode...then some Clash cum George Formby inspired types called The Libertines came along and swiped the date last year...so third time lucky then? We are certainly casting the runes against fook ups this time round...cos John Peel would be cock a hoop with this pairing, your main support being none other than...

Flaming Stars, another huge Peel fave of course. Their slinky garage punk tweaked louche rocknroll hits a beautiful sweet spot somewhere between The Seeds and perhaps a Joe Meek wrangled Gallon Drunk, with tunes to die for and tood aplenty via the beautifully trashy keys of frontman, bon viveur and wordsmith Max Decharne....

MX Tyrants- .MX Tyrants- With a lineage including Sidi Bou Said and Night Nurse there's a solid Peelite heritage with MX Tyrants...these four massively talented women may also be seen in Joanne Joanne, Ye Nuns and Knifeworld of late...chops, chops, chops....producing swoonsome pop noir with echoes of their Joanne/Duran away days and all rather effortlessly dreamy too with space age guitar flurries...not afraid to take on a forthrightly commercial and lovingly lilting electroid Latin skank as heard on ace debut single 'Mutual Lucid'. Superb.
Plus Taped Off Peel faves all night long, music direct from soiled C90 and C90 sourced in the teenage hinterland, finger hovering over the pause button between 10pm and midnight back there in another land....Thank you John Peel.
