Rare London Event
First published by J G Ballard in the legendary counter-cultural art and literary magazine Ambit, Geoff Nicholson is the author of over twenty books, including the acclaimed novels Bleeding London, Gravity’s Volkswagen and The City Under the Skin and such classics of psychogeographical non-fiction as The Lost Art of Walking and Walking in Ruins, saluted by the Los Angeles Review of Books for doing ‘for perambulation what Robert Burton did for dejection in The Anatomy of Melancholy’.
In this rare visit to his native UK from California, where he lives in a geodesic dome on the Hollywood Hills, Nicholson will read from, and talk about, his extraordinary body of work.
He will be joined in an evening of spoken word, discussion, music, performance and short films about urban spaces, London and Los Angeles, sex and food, memory and maps, by the author Travis Elborough (A Walk in the Park, The Atlas of Improbable Places), Kirsty Allison, the writer, filmmaker, DJ and editor/publisher of Cold Lips and founder of the Sylvia Path Fan Club, and happening electro-beat combo Alexander’s Festival Hall, whose much admired debut album ‘Not A Dry Eye in London’ was revered by reviewers for charting ‘the complexities of love in cities to the sound of broken nightclub-tinged balladry.’
