Pie & Vinyl Presents returns to Drift on November 25th to bring you a head spinning selection of post punk mutant disco delights.
Heading up the bill we have unique 'aggro-beat' act Blood Sport. Forming in Sheffield in 2010, the trio have forged an arresting sound practice from within the city’s industrious art/music community. 2016 saw the fruition of a year’s work in both the live and recorded realms, with their excellent new record Axe Laid To The Root released on Blast First Petite.
Blood Sport have a relentless, heavily structuralist live show, a wall of noise and rhythm delivered with ferocious intensity, girding and grinding the audience into movement. With a background playing squats, raves, art happenings and clubs, the band has increasingly sequenced their set for the dancefloor.
“If groups like This Heat created the template for template-destroying music some 40 years ago, then Blood Sport are their contemporary spawn, continuing such annihilation with gleeful abandon and head-spinning flair – creating their own sound, and space, to operate within.” - The Quietus
“Like Golden Teacher jamming with Mark Ernestus’ Ndagga Rhythm Force and 23 Skidoo, the trio skilfully navigate disparate, worldly influences to forge a blistering and deeply infectious sound driven by pounding drums, chipping guitars and yelping, urgent vox for a very direct, Northern English sort of chop up.” - Boomkat
Support comes from Southsea fx pedal aficionados Battery Hens. Much fancied thoroughbreds of the scene they already have 2 excellent eps under their belts. They are an incendiary force live with a sound taking as much from techno and free jazz as it does the more familiar noise and industrial post punk touch points.
Performing between and amongst the bands to provide a seamless transition between the nights acts, we have Southsea techno producer Aaron Udy. Aaron spends much of his life in a darkened room extracting horrific sounds from a range of technologies. His hybrid DJ and live performance will see him improvising material as well as relying on his own extensive back catalogue and some of his favourite tracks from the world of techno and experimental electronic noise.
On top of all this we will also have Southsea's Play Dead Arts Collective on board brining the sweetest eye candy projections.
