new performances from Áine O’Dwyer & Graham Lambkin + Ben Knight & Tom White
DOORS 7.30PM (8PM START)
Áine O’Dwyer & Graham Lambkin
Áine O’Dwyer\'s practice lies somewhere between her role as a vocalist, musician, accompanist, improviser, composer, performer, listener, sonic Stalker and audience member. In recent years, the pipe organ has become an integral site for her experimentation, culminating in her new albums \'Locusts\' and \'Gegenschein\'. The forthcoming \'Gallarais\' experiments with acoustic decay and was developed during her self made residency at the Brunel tunnel shaft, London. All three releases celebrate her interests in found and forgotten spaces, chance choreographies, acoustic phenomena, the act of listening and the search for alternative scorings through a combined performativity of instruments, drawings, space, time, memory and the body.
Graham Lambkin is a multidisciplinary artist who first came to prominence in the early 90s through the formation of his experimental music group The Shadow Ring. A sound organizer rather than music maker, Lambkin looks at an everyday object and sees an ocean of possibility, continually transforming quotidian atmospheres and the mundane into expressive sound art using tape manipulation techniques, chance operations and the thick ambience of domestic field recordings.
Ben Knight & Tom White
Ben Knight and Tom While will be performing I\'ve had it up to hear with fish & chips, originally a radio piece exploring the role of listening within professional acts of caring. It draws on Ben’s experience as a social worker and asylum support volunteer and is composed of interviews with care workers of all kinds. People were then invited to record themselves reading/singing the script in any way they wanted. This material was used as the raw material for live performance and recording. I\'ve had it up to hear with fish & chips was originally performed for Radiophrenia\'s on-air performances last year at CCA Glasgow and will be released as a studio recording soon.
Ben Knight is a Manchester-based musician, researcher, and social worker who has previously worked as a play worker and volunteered with asylum-seeker support charities. He is interested in the politics of listening, singing and publication as a form of performance. He plays music as one third of Human Heads and Katz Mulk and co-edits the DIY journal DANCEHALL with the artist and musician Hannah Ellull
Tom White lives and works in London. His work traverses multi-media platforms including sound, experimental film and video, installation and live performance. He has exhibited and performed internationally and published many sound works since 2009 (Vitrine, Chocolate Monk, My Dance the Skull, Alien Passengers, Tutore Burlato). In 2014 he won the British Composer Award in Sonic Art for his piece Public Address, commissioned by the South London Gallery. Performance credits include appearances at NZZN Festival, Rotterdam; Colour out of Space Festival, Brighton; Ende Tymes Festival, New York; Poesia Carnosa Festival, Rome; Spoken Weird, Whitechapel Gallery; MK Gallery; South London Gallery; Café OTO (with Graham Dunning & John Macedo) and a recent UK duo tour with Maya Dunietz.
