Event information

Glasgow-born Hamish Stuart shot to fame in the 1970’s as the falsetto voice and guitarist of the Average White Band (AWB), his distinctive songwriting and vocal and guitar style helping pave the way to AWB’s extraordinary worldwide success. After AWB’s split up Hamish spent the rest of the 1980’s touring, writing and recording with a galaxy of soul legends, including Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin and George Benson.

Hamish also worked in the studio with a number of high profile Soul artists, like Jeffrey Osbourne, Chaka Khan - for whom he arranged and played on the debut hit single ‘I’m Every Woman’ and then co-wrote the US no. 1 ‘Whatcha Gonna Do for Me’; ‘Atlantic Star’ for whom Hamish wrote their hit single ‘If Your Heart Isn’t In It’; Diana Ross and The Temptations, who recorded Hamish Stuart songs during the 1980’s.

In 1988 Hamish went through a major change of direction when he was invited to become the cornerstone of Paul McCartney’s 1989-1993 record-breaking touring and recording band, criss-crossing the world and recording five albums.

Hamish re-located from Los Angeles to London in 1994 where he has since pursued all manner of musical escapades encompassing: solo Albums with his regular ‘Hamish Stuart Band’ and with his respected collaborators Jim Mullen, Pino Palladino and Ian Thomas as ‘Jim Jam’, guest vocal appearances at events like Quincy Jones’ 64th Birthday party and with Bonnie Rait and with Michael McDonald at the Royal Albert Hall. He was invited by Sony Japan to produce the new album, ‘Mellow’, from their Swedish Superstar Meja and went on to produced albums for George Haskell, Russian Superstars ‘Time Machine’ and London’s own ‘The All Stars Collective’ while squeezing in the two US tours of Ring Starr’s ‘All Starr Band’.

2017 saw the release of a long awaited new album - ’360’ - a complete return to the soul/funk roots of Hamish Stuart, Molly Duncan and Steve Ferrone: iconic, founder members of The Average White Band. The album was recorded \'Live, off the studio floor\' during rehearsals for their sold-out shows. Reunited for the first time in 30 years, the legendary trio have created a stunning new studio LP which features some of the UK\'s finest musicians. Original, groove-laden music doesn\'t get much better - a stunning return to form from the undisputed masters of premium quality jazz funk/soul.
