The Flicks-All girl pop punk, really catchy tunes, bags of charm and all good players, a brit update of The Runaways, great stuff Red Tape Riot-Sublime and inventive dream-pop from South Africa, a gently ebbing flow, but with actual pop hooks to hold the attention, like a wistful psychedelic take on bands like Bloc Party, also Bastille and at times The Cure. Wake Up Leo- Hooky rock pop with clipped My Sharona type guitars and other ’80s new wavery …keys, Prince-ish touches, falsetto vox, all executed with panache Sons- “Brothers Lee and Nick Meldrum hit you with such sheer velocity and volume you are sure to still be vibrating long after their set has concluded. Combining relentlessly driving drone with catchy punk hooks, why smack them with a wall of sound when you can cover them with concrete? Words don’t cover it, people really need to see them live for the full glory!’ The Palette Social- A cerebral and beautifully realized take on prog tinged alt rock, Mew spring to mind also Oceansize. Compelling stuff yet never loses sight of the tune/hooks.
