MDX Jazz Presents” is a collaboration with 'Spicejazz' promoter Paul Pace at the Spice of Life in Soho to showcase the work of current and ex-students of the Middlesex course.
The BA Jazz course at London’s Middlesex University has been producing innovative and highly creative musicians ever since its inception in 1993. Hans Koller, Femi Temowo and Stian Westerhus were all Middlesex students, and a new wave of Middlesex composers and improvisers such as Led Bib, Maria Chiara Argirò and Binker Golding have recently had a major impact on the UK jazz scene.
CARAVELA is a London-based world jazz ensemble that explores musical traditions from Portuguese speaking cultures, encapsulating influences from countries like Brazil, Cape Vert in West Africa and Portugal - INÊS LOUBET voice, TELMO SOUSA guitars, JOSEPH COSTI piano, GREG GOTTLIEB bass & BEN BROWN drums www.caravelaband.com
We are also proud to present the acclaimed Norwegian bassist/vocalist ELLEN ANDREA WANG and her trio featuring drummer ERLAND DAHLEN (Mathias Eick) and pianist ANDREAS ULVO (Nils Petter Molvær, Eivind Aarseth). Ellen has been most frequently featured with the Oslo indie-jazz quartet Pixel and has toured with world-jazz drumming star Manu Katche.
