Event information

terrace cred. presents:
a double bill highlighting two very different country / roots voices from either side of the Atlantic. Both rising stars - both on the same bill tonight, corralled by our own local double bass player, Scott Warman who will be at hand to assist when required (from Porchlight Smoker, yes - he brought Annie Keating to The Greys, so you know he works only with the best).

Amelia White
From East Nashville, building a loyal following and critical accolades, at home and in Europe, Amelia White has asked to include The Greys on her autumn UK tour.
The UK was good to Amelia last year- her album 'Home Sweet Hotel' was most well received and she played a number of festival dates. 'Rhythm Of The Rain' is a collection of tunes written during her UK tour last year, sharply observed songs commenting, from a distance, on what was unfolding back in the USA and given as 'an offering of thanks for feeling embraced just when she needed it'. Opening with a brief spoken 'Don’t think too much, people...', recorded in the four days between her mother’s funeral and her own wedding, it digs deep.
Amelia's songs are detailed, 'like a short story writer steeped in the gothic humidity of the backroads. White illuminates the ordinary'. 'A rock and roll soothsayer,... her well worn, smokey pipes deliver a rawness you’d expect from mining that liminal space between grief and joy.' 'There’s a catchy melodic laziness to her rock and roll, an afternoon drive in the country, the top down, bare legs up on the dash, singing along to your favorite song' (Amy Speace).
“Top Country albums of 2016” ( along with Buddy Miller, Bonnie Raitt, Applewood Road) TELEGRAPH

'White’s voice has the craggy, jagged grit of Lucinda Williams at her best, but it also has a sweetness that Williams does not possess..' 4/5 * MAVERICK MAG

'Amelia White is a true storyteller/ songwriter … serving up a dark unglamorous slice of Americana… her voice is smokey soulful, warm and deep and her songs listen like entries from her diary on the road' NO DEPRESSION

Danni Nicholls
From Bedford, rapidly gaining a biiig name for herself, Danni Nichols is enjoying a great year: an Americana Association UK ‘Album Of The Year’ award nomination for ‘Mockingbird Lane’, a 28 date UK tour supporting the legendary Shakin’ Stevens, a new live album released in association with Vintage TV she has played prestigious festivals, Cambridge Folk and Tønder, Denmark and is now invited to play AmericanaFest, Nashville…
Danni is steeped in folk, country and rock'n'roll music from her Grandmother’s record collection. Having inherited her uncle's 1963 Burns London Shortscale Jazz guitar (rumoured to have belonged to Billy Fury!) at 16, her own songs began to flow.
She met bassist/producer Chris Donohue (The Civil Wars, Elvis Costello, Robert Plant) in London whilst he was in the UK playing bass with Emmylou Harris. The pair have now made two critically acclaimed albums together with some of Nashville’s finest musicians (including Al Perkins) featuring on the tracks.
Touring with her trusty, ‘weathered and worn’ Tanglewood parlour guitar, Danni's passionate delivery, captivating velvet voice and charmingly engaging between-song banter compel you to fall under her spell.

'I absolutely love the elegance and beauty of her music.' Bob Harris, BBC Radio 2
'Sumptuous' UNCUT
'Effortlessly slips from smoky soul, folk-pop and heart-wrenching alt-country, all in a rich voice.' Q Magazine
