Hazel Iris, Mally Harpaz and Colonial Sun join forces to perform three extraordinarily original sets at the Servants Jazz Quarters in Dalston, London.
Californian songstress Hazel Iris performs a set of her quirky folk-inspired indie songs, accompanied by accordion, cello, guitar and percussion (Mally Harpaz). With a dark and playful attitude to writing music, her unique sound blends crystalline vocals with a twist of magic. Through the traditions of romantic lieder, vaudeville, and contemporary styles she celebrates the high art of storytelling.

Multi instrumentalist Mally Harpaz (Anna Calvi, Hazel Iris, Eran Karniel, Jessica Lauren) performs her original compositions joined by a small number of phenomenal musicians and special guests. These distinct pieces were mainly written as part of a collaboration with award-winning video artist Clara Aparicio Yoldi. Mally’s reverence for the profound creates mysterious melodic lines and shares a luscious ambience with other contemporary pioneers such as Steve Reich, Max Richter, and Nils Frahm.

Colonial Sun is the musical moniker of James Marples, an Australian singer-songwriter whose dark balladry has drawn comparisons with Howe Gelb, Sun Kil Moon and Mark Lanegan. Emotionally lucid and at times surreal, these songs draw on imagery from the Australian landscape to the decaying monuments of Empire. Sparse and delicate accompaniment is provided by Rose Asprey (cello, vocals) and Mally Harpaz (drums, percussion).
