Salad rose to fame touring with Blur in 1993, at the start of the Brit Pop era. They notched up the hit album, Drink Me, in 1995, and were part of the ‘Girl Fronted Indie Band’ movement, alongside Sleeper, Echobelly and Elastica. Having called a halt in 1998, they relaunched as the duo, Salad Undressed, in 2016 and found a new and old fan base that’s still riding strong 20 years on. Salad reformed as a full band last year and begin their first tour as a reformed five piece in April
Tonight Salad Undressed will make an exclusive London appearance in the run up to the tour, with original Salad duo Marijne van der Vlugt and Paul Kennedy being joined by former Julian Cope guitarist and fierce drummer, Donald Ross Skinner, live as a trio.
The gig launches Salad Undressed’s Album, ‘Good Love Bad Love’ (Pledge Music), the first new Salad material of any kind for 20 years. The album will be followed by the band’s unreleased LOST ALBUM, originally recorded in the late Nineties, but released for the first time later this year. More new material is planned with all original band members, including drummer Rob, on song writing duties.
The Silver Spoons formed in 2014 in rural Czech Republic and within a year had attracted enough attention to move to Prague to become an essential part of the city’s indy scene. After undergoing a few line- up changes the band, still led by two of the original members, have just started recording their debut album with Danny Saber (formerly of Black Grape). With overt Brit-pop, punk funk and indie influences, they’re considered to be one of the acts with the highest cross over potential in the Czech Republic. The Silver Spoons will play 93 Feet East having just opened for The Charlatans in Prague.
Maella
Formed by its 21-year-old award winning front women, Maella is a fast rising pan European band fronted by two women from Prague and Copenhagen and a rhythm section from London. As a solo artist Maella had already won singing and writing awards, but after relocating to London last year, she formed her band and combined her smokey vocals with a musical palette that embraces post punk, trip hop, dub, rock and electro.
Vorsprung DJs - Ben Osborne and George T
The night will see deck action from long time collaborators Ben and George. Producer, singer and DJ, George T has been described by Dummy magazine as Greco Roman\'s secret weapon - GR being Joe Goddard from Hot Chip\'s hyper cool record label. He was also resident DJ at Edinburgh\'s legendary Tribal Funktion night club and more recently played Joe’s XOYO residency. Ben Osborne, described as a \'polymath\' by Time Out, is a DJ, writer, creative producer and founder of Noise of Art, the pioneering collective which marries electronic music with art. As well as popping up across Europe, he’s a resident at Big Chill, The National Portrait Gallery, 93 and The Cons. Both are resident DJs at Camden Underground and new experimental night, VorsSprung.
