Edinburgh Contra Dance and EdinBal are excited to present our very first joint dance event! Join us for a night of dancing from two very different parts of the world.

Contra dance comes all the way from America, and is cousin to the familiar Scottish ceilidh. Live music will be provided by Edward Wallace and Mark Neal, with Rachel Shapiro Wallace explaining and calling the dances. There will be a 15-minute welcome session for new dancers starting at 7:45pm.

Balfolk dancing comes from all over Europe, with a mixture of couple dances, line dances and set dances. We will have music from the talented duo Nicky McConkey and Jamie Huddlestone. Come and dance rhythmic stomping bourrées, gentle melodic mazurkas and more.

Although these two dance styles might look different, both are very sociable, great fun and easy to learn - we will show you all you need to dance! All are welcome, and no experience or partner is needed.

At the break we will have a special guest appearance from Mons Meg sword dance team!
