We’re excited to be bringing New York’s Florist to Oxford on the 10th April, and it’s going to be BRILLIANT. We’ve been fans since 2016’s outstanding debut full length ‘The Birds Outside Sang’, a beautiful, hushed, contemplative glance at the mundanity of recovery in the wake of a bicycle accident. The album’s opening couplet should give you an idea of the mixture of painful honesty and wry humour and hope that’s scattered throughout – vocalist Emily Sprague sings:
“I can't feel my right side ear but I'll probably still not listen to jazz
I can't feel my left side hand god I hope it comes back to me again”
Latest record ‘If Blue Could Be Happiness’ came out towards the end of 2017, and this time was written in the wake of the death of a parent. Together with bandmates Jonnie Baker and Rick Spataro, Sprague shifted towards delicate fingerpicked guitar lines punctuated by sparkly synths and effects, and away from the more synth-centric songs of the year before. It’s going to be a real treat. For fans of Frankie Cosmos, Alex G, Soccer Mommy, Double Double Whammy, Orchid Tapes.

As if that wasn’t enough, support comes from the brilliant Porridge Radio, from Brighton, who’ve been a staple on Schism and Smash Disco bills for the past year or so. Playing solo, Dana will bring their dark-jangle indiepop back to the Library on the back of being named one of the 40 acts to watch out for this year by the Guardian.
Happy to have local band The Land Girls open for us in what is looking likely to be a special and intimate show. http://landgirls.band/
