\" Thank you for a wonderful evening. Very moving, evocative music.\"
\"A delightful performance. Magical\"
Just two of the many compliments Ricardo received after his last solo concert at Saltburn Arts Theatre in April 2015. He is delighted to return to the sea air and this lovely theatre to perform his very special music once more.
Innovative musician, composer and poet, Ricardo Curbelo takes his audiences on a rhythmic, colourful journey on harp, cuatro, maracas and vocals. He combines traditional pieces from a variety of Latin American countries, together with many of his own, often spellbinding compositions, such as the much applauded Homo sapiens Dream, title track of his third album.
Vibrant, energetic and jazzy pieces contrast with more classical, captivating melodies and romantic vocals. The sound of his Modelo Corvado harps, adds to the uniqueness of his performances, which always gain him many enthusiastic compliments – especially from those who have never seen a harp played this way before!
From an early age, Ricardo has been an eminent representative of the Latin American poetry and music culture. He first studied the harp at the Music Academy of Villavicencio, Colombia, with Luis Alberto Curvelo, his brother and Director of the institution. The two brothers founded The Music Academy of Puerto Carreño (Vichada) and Ricardo lead the first music cultural representation of the region, which was awarded first prizes internationally. Whilst still a young man, he made his name as a poet in his homeland, winning international prizes for both poetry and dance.
Ricardo came to the UK and has lived in London since 1979. He has many years experience on a wide variety of stages: radio & TV, concerts, festivals, schools, universities, wedding receptions and charity performances, to name but a few. His restless desire to contribute and to open new horizons for his culture, led him to construct a new Latin American harp, and with this instrument, the development and presentation of a unique new wave of poetic music. He has given many performances both as a soloist and with other accomplished musicians. Over the past few years his solo concerts, “Rhythms from Latin America”, have been very well received.
This concert will include compositions from his latest album, Espiritu Llanero**A Londres, whose two title tracks are the expression of the Llanero artist who has lived for many years in London and of his gratitude to this great city.
\"Excellent concert - mesmerising performance!\" (Arran Music Society, May, 2015)
“A wonderful introduction into a completely different kind of harp music, beautifully expressed.”
