REALLY EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THE RETURN OF THIS MIND BLOWING TRIO FROM MANCHESTER AFTER THEIR RECENT APPEARANCE HERE......
Skutch Manos can be as heavy as 3 balerina hippos raving/tiptoeing all the way back from Ibiza having dropped in at a few music institutions of various styles to seriously learn a few instruments in order to pay for dinner! Their compositions are well embellished to sometimes epic proportions, remeniscant of early Santana, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.
Guitar, Double Bass and Percussion, on paper shouldn’t really sound quite so buoyant, bouncy, dancable, groovy, hard hitting and dynamic. There is a club scene crescendo, building tension and dropping beats. There is a hard core thrash, all out full on Cuban rhythm fused with British rock elements, pushing dynamism, stretching for the sky with the end of your fingertips, and then standing on your tiptoes. How high can you go? There is soft melodic, melancholic instrumental introspection, building to grooves that explode with colour and energy, returning to re-tell the story as an acheivement of mastery, and in the end, coming to terms with the beginning.
The Band introduced the harmonic addition of violin and viola to both the live and recorded versions of the performance, opening a whole new world of sound to play with. Skutch Manos have been compared to Led Zeppelin without the distortion, John Butler Trio, Nitin Sawhney. Everyone always has a diffferent comparison, which is nice, but it highlights the difficulty in trying to explain it to someone who’s never heard it before.
The new album ‘101010’ is an ambitious collective journey incorporating serous dynamic, sonic and pressure variations, exploring melody, mood, and expression within the construct of instrumental music.
