Benji Kirkpatrick (founder member of big band folk behemoth ‘Bellowhead’ and power folk trio ‘Faustus’) is a massive fan of Jimi Hendrix, his first musical icon.
Though immersed in folk tradition and a stalwart of the folk scene, Benji now takes the songs of Jimi Hendrix and re-interprets them; stripping back the layers of guitar, the psychedelia, the era and bringing them
out in their pure form.
For behind the axe-wielding antics there's also great writing which Benji reveals in lean acoustic visions of Hendrix as song-smith. Leaving behind the guitar altogether (Hendrix did that rather well...), Benji tackles the songs on bouzouki, banjo and mandolin,
creating a unique approach and sound for this material.
Always respectful of the originals, whilst always looking for a new angle Benji performs the songs of Hendrix like you’ve never heard them before. Incidentally, this will be the only 'Hendrix Songs' show Benji will perform this year.
Jem Kid is a 22 year old emerging songwriter from Hertfordshire currently studying at Oxford. He recently appeared in the 'New Roots' final in St Albans.
