legendary group’s reunion tour * Julian Siegel (reeds) Phil Robson (guitar) Thad Kelly (bass) Gene Calderazzo (drums) * Door/food 7.0 pm, music 8.30. Students £12 (see note below).
Reviews of Partisans' 2014 CD 'Swamp':
"Eighteen years on from their debut, this mélange of mischievous, stylish mash-up and virtuosic energy doesn't get old. If anything Robson, Siegel, Kelly and Calderazzo are reaching new heights." - MOJO Magazine #4 Jazz Album of the Year * "Styles shift, time signatures are rapidly juggled, and the resourceful Siegel and Robson cruise through multi-chorus improvisations. There are Afro-Caribbean dances that turn into jazzy wriggles and then crunching guitar rock, slowly winding guitar and bass clarinet melodies that build to garrulous polyphonies, and a sinister slow fusion powered by Kelly's bass-guitar that gets gradually funkier." - Guardian * "Restless, almost reckless energy, delirious listening, consistently thrilling." - BBC Music Magazine
