Manchesters’ OLA headline Soup Kitchen to release their new single and video, made in collaboration with film-maker Paul Daly.
OLA, or One Little Atlas, are an electronic/dream-pop two-piece from Manchester. OLA blend ambient spaces, treated guitars, layered vocal harmonies and beat-driven tracks with an interest in sound design. Hard to pin down, their music is characterised by the questing, forward momentum of guitars and delicate orchestral elements, culminating in great dream-pop odysseys.
Creating sweeping aural soundscapes that are like self-contained soundtracks to an unseen film, Kevan’s otherworldly vocals sit somewhere between Jeff Buckley and Jonsi of Sigur Ros, wrapped in textured guitar, beats and orchestral elements.
OLA have released an album and two EPs since 2013, composed a score to the film Koyaanisqatsi, created various original works for Bury Art Gallery and John Rylands Library, and shared the live stage with Future Islands, Here We Go Magic, Sylvan Esso, Errors and Ulrich Schnauss.
This set promises to be an immersive cinematic experience, with the two-piece joined by additional live musicians, alongside their ethereal projections.
The band are set to release two new singles in October, as well as working hard on their next full length LP.
Main support comes from IORA – aka Manchester-based Holly Phelps, who combines looping vocals, instrumental harmonies, electronic samples, live instruments and her unique and versatile voice, creating a sound-world that sits somewhere between trip hop and folk music.
Opening the show is Manchester-based musician Mat Peters.
