STATIC SHOCK GIG VOL #162:

URANIUM CLUB
Sharpen your pencils, pseudo-intellectuals, the Uranium Club is coming back to London for their first headlining show! Formed in 2014, The Minneapolis Uranium Club Band sounds exactly like Wire and exactly like Devo and exactly like the Randoms and exactly like Total Control and exactly like the Shitty Limits and exactly like Eddy Current and exactly like The Fall without Mark E. Smith's languidness. It's the Sex Pistols misfiring. The Prodigal Sons are leaving the clubhouse to sew their wild oats and bring us the mid-grade stuff we've come to love so much. With releases on Lumpy, Fashionable Idiots, Static Shock, Castle Face Records and a brand new LP on the way, all we can do is ask for "more"!

SAUNA YOUTH
SAUNA YOUTH are an evolving band of future humans making truly irregular punk, not quite comparable to anything else. "Weird" is a meaningless platitude and "art punk" is a classifier that shouldn't be required. Consisting of Boon (drums, vocals), Pines (guitar), Ecke (vocals, sampler) and Mince (bass), Sauna Youth are a punk band that's happy to embrace all of the contradictions that go along with that notion.
On paper, Sauna Youth sound considered - live, they can barely be contained. They are at times furious, unstoppable and severe, with the sampler wailing like an alarm coming from a parallel universe - then chugging, poppy, harmonious and fun. Forever loud. As Kurt Cobain once asked "Why can't we be both Black Sabbath and The Beatles?" Sauna Youth consistently pose the question, "Why can't we be both The Ramones and Steve Reich?"

SCRAP BRAIN
SCRAP BRAIN play primitive hardcore punk, kind of almost whacked-out Flipper style with a real noisy/no wave dissonant tone. The lyrics are fantastically sarcastic and barbed, a particular favourite being the couplet "M'lady me, I'll murder you", which may provoke a smirk or wry smile, but is absolutely not a joke. Their recent 7" 'Unhappy Hardcore' is available through all good stockists of composed cacophony, desperate dirges and pieces of the punk puzzle. This is brute force music, the sound of the claustrophobia of London, the claustrophobia of being a human being trapped inside of your own brain.
