Echo Echo Festival of Dance and Movement Presents:

HEROES - John Scott

Echo Echo Studios, Hangman's Bastion, Magazine Street, Derry

Date: Monday 12th & Tuesday 13th November

Time: 8pm

John Scott (choreographer/dancer/operatic tenor), creates a solo using the universe of opera heroes: Beethoven’s ‘Fidelio’, Wagner’s ‘Die Walkure’, ‘Siegfried’, Weber’s ‘Der Freischutz’.

Scott creates a journey that is a dance physicalisation of music. Through his astonishing voice he shows two selves, human and mythological. The music portrays heroes battling impossible dark forces and conquering darkness paralleled with the idea of escape, making the mythological personal.

“In a world where theatre is still caught in the arcane modes of early twentieth century psychodrama, Scott deconstructs the opera form not with the erudition of a post modern arts practitioner, but with the visceral shamanic passion of a true artist.” Michael Harding, Irish Author/Playwright/Journalist
