Atlanta's rock-candy garage-niks the BLACK LIPS touchdown in Cardiff for a night of hard ass kicking! Whatever you like to call the BLACK LIPS' particular branch of guitar rock - garage, revival, flower punk (as they describe themselves). It's an easier sell whenever the band in question is painted the fastest, craziest, or most depraved in the land. Having been banned from playing live in several venues in their home state of Georgia, thank god they’re not banned from playing the UK, because this will be one Sunday evening spent in the company of rock n roll genius.

Out promoting their brand new album 200 Million Thousand on Vice Records (as in yeah, Vice Magazine) – it’s by far their best album thus far, as a killer follow-up to 67’s, oh shit… 07’s Los Valientes del Mundo Nuevo.

The legendary Greg Shaw from Bomp! Records knew what the hell he was doing when he first signed the band, so gimmicks aside, honour the man’s memory, and show some respect to who are possibly be the most raw, energetic and true rock n roll band out of the USA today. I mean this was the guy that brought IGGY POP to the masses right? Yep, Google it now, Wikipedia it.

The BLACK LIPS are guaranteed to deliver a night of snake-hipped, insidious, (hard) ass-kicking, fuzzed-out rock n roll that will be nothing short of utter magnificence. I mean, this is what it must have been like in 1965! When bowl haircuts, stripey tops, skin tight jeans, Converse Chuck Taylor’s and anything that came out of Haight-Ashbury were the norm?

THE SONICS? 13TH FLOOR ELEVATORS? STRAWBERRY ALARM CLOCK? They all had it going on right? And then some! The BLACK LIPS are the closest thing I’ll ever have as a time machine, back to a time where music was honest, raw, original and downright righteous. But fuck that, this is the here and now. So get your stinking asses out, and down to this joint, and stop trying to think of excuses to not come.

No excuses, see you in the pit.

MIKA MIKO

Support comes in the shape of Los Angeles' all girl punk terrorists MIKA MIKO. Out of the Kill Rocks Stars camp, I think MIKA MIKO could possibly be the most rawkus and entertaining band you will ever see on stage. Period. And what’s this?! Two vocalists? Bedlam a go-go!

These chicks sound like how punk sounded to me when I first heard it as a kid. Up until now, (in god knows how many years of listening to shit rip-off wannabe bands) I haven’t been able to say that. But it’s the truth. This is how it must have been for my older brother when he was there, the first time punk happened. Jammy bastard.

These birds would make any punk rocker here in the UK sweat, they have more balls than most of these floppy fringed, leather jacket wearing poseurs we get shovelled into our eyes and ears nowadays. I kid you not. Their live shows throughout the USA are the stuff of myth. It’s like being trapped in an SHAM 69 via X-RAY SPEX related time warp, shut your eyes, and it’s like real punk rock never died.

Now, I have to choose which one I’m gonna elope with.
