Eliza McCarthy
is a London based pianist who spends her time playing new and experimental music. Winner of
the 2013 British Contemporary Piano Competition, she performs in concert halls, art galleries,
living rooms and dark trendy bars as a soloist and band member. She has had the great pleasure
of working with composers including John Adams, George Crumb, Tansy Davies, and Andrew
Hamilton, and is currently collaborating with Mica Levi on an ever-growing series of solo piano
works.
The pair's collaboration has patiently cemented in the past three years, with McCarthy
featuring on Levi's Oscar-nominated score for Pablo Larrain's 'Jackie'. Eliza has performed
Mica's work at the Barbican, St John's Smith Square, and on a 7" both shared with
cellist Oliver Coates on Foom in 2017.
'Slow Dark Green Murky Waterfall' collects 6 of Levi's piano works, played with warmth and care
by McCarthy. The EP is bound by a sense of unreal poise: the elegant, blunt,
low-lit, and gloopy seep into one another.

Competition
makes (mild) pop music and performs with a sampler and voice, the songs think about smallness
and vulnerability, and build hooks from within their own limited means, finding tension and
arrangement(s) within their repetitions.
Competition's mini-album 'You Turned Into A Painting' is out on Slip in November.
