Attila and his band Barnstormer 1649 play Northampton for the first time in ages. First off, Attila will do some spoken word and invite local plastic gangsta Karl Phillips to join him and exchange a couple of raps! Then after a break Attila will bring on the band, celebrating the release of their new 'early music meets punk' album 'Restoration Tragedy' - it doesn’t sound like anything else!


It mixes early music and punk in 58 minutes of songs and instrumentals set around the aftermath of the English Revolution of 1649, when Charles 1st was beheaded, the country became a republic, the ‘world turned upside down’ and unprecedented radical ideas spread across the land.
Crumhorn, cornamuse, bombarde, shawm, rauschpfeife, 5 different recorders, violin, viola, mandola, mandocello, guitar, bass, drums, voices and words. Music for Levellers, Diggers and Ranters!
But the songs are (worryingly) relevant today….
1649, meet 2018.
A divided country unsure of its future. A pompous demagogue with a ludicrously over inflated sense of entitlement who has just had his head chopped off .
Charles 1st, meet Boris Johnson, and/or William Rees Mogg. (There’s always hope!)
And standing up to the rich and powerful against overwhelming odds, a Digger. A radical leader with a genuine vision of social equality and a passion for growing vegetables.
Gerrard Winstanley, meet Jeremy Corbyn.
Of course, ‘Restoration Tragedy’ is old school, available on CD and double vinyl LP but NOT on digital download (they didn’t have that in 1649).
