Here's the first Des Was A Bowie Fan gig night of the year, presenting the shit hot Oh800 and Gemini Sun at The Victoria. Entry is £5 and also gets you into the clubnight after.
Oh800 have a rhythmic psych sound with elements of disco, jazz and post-punk, creating trippy Pop anthems with a sweet sense of the surreal, possibly in the vein of Super Furry Animals and Talking Heads. Off-kilter percussion and electronic parps, funk bass lines and handclaps swirl around singer Eoin, who weaves a compelling narrative right through. Their first LP came out in November via InfiniteJest.
Gemini Sun have a twinkling cathedral of a sound with echoes of Velvet Underground's hazy melodic flourish and a touch of the wild, wild west. Debut EP 'Polyhedral' is a slanted and enchanted jangle glam masterpiece with a shimmer from the top drawer, whilst their latest, 'Digital Memories of a Gallery Space', is a curious collection of casual noise and musical / non-musical fragments presented over 5 short tracks. Both have their release on Crocodile Records.
Entry includes the clubnight afterwards -
