Dan Donnelly Bio:

Dan Donnelly has been writing, recording and touring for 25 years. He has played in over 20 countries worldwide and was a regular on the folk circuit in Greenwich Village NYC. He has supported Ian Duty, Duran Duran, Bob Geldof to name a few. He has been a touring member of The Levellers, The Oysterband and The Wonder Stuff arguably the best folk rock bands in the UK. He is releasing his 5th Studio album Are We Having Fun? in November 2018 which features Ashely Slater from Freakpower and Barry Hyde from The Futureheads among other musicians.

If there ever was an artist that embodied the term Troubadour it’s Dan Donnelly. He has been traveling and touring since the 90s in a journey that has included gigs in over 17 countries world-wide.

Originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland, Dan started his career as singer and songwriter in critically acclaimed Belfast band Watercress and penned many of their most popular songs including “Candlemaker”, which reached number 1 in the Irish indie charts and “Stars Shine On”, which also topped the same chart. He has played with Watercress, solo and with Joy Zipper all across the globe supporting bands such as, Air, The Levellers, The Darkness, Duran Duran, Ian Dury and Turin Brakes to name but a few.

In 2000 Dan moved to New York and it was here he formed the New York based band Sonovagun who packed venues throughout the Tri State area consistently. He has gained considerable recognition as a solo singer and songwriter in recent years, both in Europe and America.

Dan's toured with the cream of folk royalty including Seth Lakeman twice on sell out tours of Britain; Oysterband extensively including their 30th Anniversary Tour, and the Levellers, arguably the finest folk rock acts in Europe.

You may also have seen Dan playing any of the major summer festivals across the UK such as; Beautiful Days Festival, Glastonbury Festival and The Big Session Festival.

In 2009 Dan gained a nomination for UK Festival Awards Critics Choice category alongside artists such as, Thom Yorke, Lily Allen and Mercury Rev.

Dan is now celebrating the release of his latest LP, 'Country & Northern'. Toughened by life on the road Dan has gathered a wealth of experiences that have shaped his songwriting and honed his live performances considerably. The loves, losses, poverty, wealth, addictions, successes and failures are chronicled in his breath taking new work.

With a distinctive originality, the body of work weaves Country, Folk, Pop and Rock in a way that only an artist with Donnelly’s maturity and experience can. Blending fiery fiddles and blistering banjos but maintaining a big pop sensibility, the album is quite simply unique.

It features guest appearances from friends all over the globe including Mark Chadwick (Levellers) and Mercury Music nominated producer Sean Lakeman (Seth Lakeman).

On listening you will realise why Dan has been asked to play most of the major festivals in Europe, has supported and played with just about everybody, has been critically acclaimed, given awards and topped charts thus far. Dan’s large and ever growing fan base will tell you that 2011 and the release of these particular songs will ensure that Dan Donnelly is a name you will be hearing for a long time.

His gigs are interspersed with audience interaction, jokes and anecdotal stories of his colourful career... Over the years Davey has performed in Australia, Ireland, Scotland, Norway, Holland, Greece, Portugal, and at the Edinburgh, Glastonbury, Beautiful days, Larmer Tree, Trowbridge, and Cambridge Folk Festivals, and has played alongside such names as Mark Chadwick (the Levellers), Steve Knightley (Show of Hands), Benji Kirkpatrick (Bellowhead), Dan Donnelly (The Wonderstuff), Gaz Brookfield, and Atilla the Stockbroker. "A folk-punk phenomenon, a dark and dodgy dealer in high tragedy, comedy and sparkling morality. He'll have you laughing, weeping and thinking things you won't want to mention in polite company. Blending powerful political folk numbers with comic ditties, Davey seizes the crowd's attention with witty quips and anecdotes of his colourful career. Commanding the stage with charisma and talent both, he delivers entertainment in spades" - The Good Gig Guide.

"Beautifully written songs with many tales to tell, delivered in a formidable all acoustic style. Folk Punk at its best. The sound of the Medway Delta as defined by Davey Malone and the Longtails" - Toby Barelli aka King Size Slim.

"Davey Malone and the Longtails are a loveable bunch of rogues whose music will bring you tales of skull duggery, romance and daring do that seamlessly combines the nostalgic whiff of lost England with the mysticism of Tolkien's middle earth. Fantastic and utterly captivating." - Mat Partner aka Howling Mat

"Davey Malone reminds me of the past in a half remembered way, like a gentleman of the road some how connected to a fictional but comforting past" - Mark Chadwick, The Levellers

"Davey Malone is an expert at playing to the audience and as a result the performance always seems fresh" - The Sound of Summer Gig Review.

"Medway Delta FolkPunk par excellence" - Tom Nick (one of my mates.. but its such a good (and accurate) quote I had to use it) ;)
