The times they are a changin'; you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone; should I stay or should I go?
Curated by Louis Benassi and Gareth Evans
It's been coming for an age, and soon it will be upon us. Yes, the end of the Horse Hospital's 25th anniversary series is nigh, but our concerns here lie in a realm somewhat less joyful. It does not need to be mouthed. We don't agree with it but we can certainly challenge its happening with a night of passionate mixed media poetry, salary-free shenanigans and the cream of the counter-cultural crop when it comes to the activist incantators we need - all too often - to remind us that the human is not only an auto-destructive, eco-destructive mind/meat rampage.
So, join us to sample the celluloid shimmer of Shirley Clarke, Mike 'Ways of Seeing' Dibb, Susu Laroche, Helen Levitt and many more from the 'Benassi Nexus'. Open your head to the utterances of Sophie Cameron, David Ellis and Stephen Watts until you find the ears in your feet and start shuffling to the psych-folk sonics of The Vardanettes.
If this literally means nothing to you, then you are probably not our dreamed-of audience. If it sort of does, then do attend to find out more, as talents spoken, sung, performed, projected and more agitate and celebrate and incarnate other ways of being that will bring you solace, insight and righteous anger-fuel in varied but constant measure. If you have heard of 16mm, you have to attend. If you haven't, you have to. If you are a poem in your own becoming, and longing to join the verse of collective meaning, we shall meet you in the field beyond all that obstructs us. When it comes down to it, you're either with us or against us. There's a (red) line in the sand. Will you cross it?
