Americana double header with UK/US duo A Different Thread, delivering an intoxicating blend of Beatlesque folk-rock meets Gillian Welch dark country, or as they call it: British-Americana. Plus Yorkshire’s badass banjo-pickin’ girl’, Banjo Jen, whose refreshingly original act is making waves in the UK Americana scene. Expect well-crafted songs, percussive step-dancing and this Yorkshire girl's ‘gift of the gab’.
A Different Thread Live shows have been described as “Intriguing and fascinating” (Three Chords and the Truth) with “Beautifully evocative harmonies” (American roots UK). Robert Jackson (Lichfield, UK) and Alicia Best (Durham, North Carolina) play over 6 instruments between them including fiddle, harmonica and a suitcase drum kit. Their original songs are inspired by the music that has criss-crossed the Atlantic over the generations in true folk fashion. “A strong, new independent sound" (Folk Radio UK).
Banjo Jen's instrumentation includes the traditional ‘frailing’ style of banjo, as well as incorporating Appalachian step-dancing as a percussive element, she is influenced by aspects of folk, country, blues and ‘old-time’ music. Her debut EP Lost & Found was released in 2018, reviewed by Maverick magazine as ‘smart and sassy…a distinctly promising debut’. She was also selected twice to represent the Americana Music Association UK at Red Rooster festival and The Long Road festival in 2018.
