A Different Thread is a collaboration between Robert Jackson from Lichfield, England, and Alicia Best from Durham, North Carolina.
Both are songwriters and multi-instrumentalists and take inspiration from the music that has crisscrossed the Atlantic Ocean over the generations, in true folk fashion.
Their self labelled ‘British Americana’ style has been described by internet magazine, Folk Radio UK, as “a strong, independent new sound”.
Think Beatlesque folk rock meets Gillian Welch dark country.
A fresh take on an old familiar sound which led them to win first place in the open mic competition at Shrewsbury Folk Festival in 2017 and a land prime feature slot on American National Public Radio last year. Even Country legend, Steve Earle recently praised their live performance at Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival NC, where the artists shared a bill.
The couple originally met busking on the streets of Galway, Ireland in 2016 and since their last performance in Oxford, they’ve released their debut album 'On A Whim' and are now on tour for three months in the UK, following six months of dates in the USA, Latin America and Ireland.
