Summer music from Britain and the Baltic countries
Our concert celebrates summer in all its manifestations: the languorous, basking warmth of the summer sun, the phenomenon of the northern lights, and the singing and dancing which in many countries celebrate midsummer and the feast of St John the Baptist. The concert features Tormis’ St John’s Day Songs whose tunes and texts are derived from the traditional Estonian, midsummer, all-night bonfire celebrations. As well as these lively and unusual songs we will be singing works by, among others, Britten, Jonathan Dove, Jonathan Harvey, Latvian composers Einfelde, Vasks and Ešenvalds, and the Finnish composer Rautavaara.
We hope you will join us to enjoy this delightful and varied programme.
