Threaded are an acoustic trio that create and perform original instrumentals and self-penned songs, inspired by world folk culture and re-imagined for a contemporary audience.
Threaded is the 'impressive talent' (Folk Radio UK), of Jamie Rutherford (guitar/lead vocals), Ning- ning Li (violin/vocals) and Rosie Bott (clarinet/vocals). Their first two albums, Fair Winds & Following Seas (2017) and 'of what we spoke' in (2015), were received with great critical acclaim and their third studio album is set to be released later this year.
Threaded’s show is full to the brim of energy, emotion, passion and reflection, delivered with an outstanding level of musicianship. From foot-stomping jigs to poignant ayres and soulful songs, Threaded’s set has something for everyone.
Threaded have recently been working with theatre company; Red Earth Theatre, on their production 'Soonchild'. They have composed the score, and will be performing it live when it tours nationally in 2019/2020. Red Earth Theatre create shows which are accessible to the d/Deaf community, and research into how Threaded make the music accessible too has been kindly supported by Arts Council England.

Michael Walsh is a singer, flautist and composer originating from the Mancunian
hotbed of traditional Irish music. Now Sheffield based, Michael Walsh and his band
Quarehawk bring to together a meld of influences from Ireland, England, Scotland
and the Iberian Peninsula. Michael is one of the foremost performers of the Wooden
Flute, steeped in the Sligo style from the west coast of Ireland but constantly
searching for emotional insight and ways to express his life experiences. His vocal
collaborations include singing with Hannah Miller from the Moulettes, Leti González
Menéndez from Asturian post-folk purveyors L-R, Ríoghnach Connolly (The Breath,
Honeyfeet) and English folk singer Bryony Griffith. Michael plays flutes, low whistles
and has brought the sound of the Chinese Hulusi gourd to his sonic blend.
The new album by Michael Walsh, “Quarehawk”, documents his journey through
grieving for his late Irish father, his questions of masculinity and the joy of being a
dad. The Album, co produced with Michael McGoldrick and mixed by Sam Proctor
features traditional and newly composed work with guests including Basque
accordion legend Kepa Junkera, Michael McGoldrick, Mancunian poet Mike Garry,
Ríoghnach Connolly (Afro-Celts/ The Breath), Simon Bradley from Asturian band
Llan de Cubel, cellist Liz Hanks (Thea Gilmore Band/ Martin Simpson), Bryony
Griffith and Will Hampson, Helen Gubbins and Leticia González Menéndez and
Ruben Bada from Asturian post Folk purveyors L-R.
Over the last two years Michael has gathered together a group of his favourite
musicians to perform in various formations as Quarehawk. Live collaborators have
included Liz Hanks (Martin Simpson/ Thea Gilmore Band), Mancunian poet Mike
Garry, Simon Bradley and Anna-Wendy Stevenson, Hannah Miller (Moulettes),
Bryony Griffith and Will Hampson (Demon Barbers), Liz Hanley (Green Fields of
America), Sam Proctor (Doolin/ Cross Harbour), the cream of Manchester Irish
musicians including Paul Daly and Angela Usher and visual artist Simon Buckley
(Not Quite Light).
When his is not busy being a performer and dad to two children, Michael is a tutor
and Doctoral researcher at the University of Sheffield specialising in Asturian folk
music from the Atlantic coast of Spain as well as a member of Leeds Céilí Band.
Michael has performed across Europe and the US with and his music was featured
in the RTE /PBS Television series “The Irish Empire”.
