The Widows + RNR Book Club with Jordan Mooney and Tony Drayton
Presented by: BugBear Bookings0 | LONDON: The Water Rats |

P | Saturday 7th December, 2019 |
N | 7:30pm |
Johnny Moped - The return of Johnny Moped has been one of the least expected but most rewarding surprises of this daft and dark era of Trumping Johnsons. Still playing kickass British standard rock and roll with the joyous insouciance of Johnny to the fore, the new beefed up Mopeds are still incendiary. With the reassuring moustachio'd presence of one Slimy Toad, still upfront on lead guitar and the figurehead looking lean and keen there's something afoot with this fizza ( that's a period reference to the Yamaha FS1E motrcycle for you younger tom cats).
Now that new Damaged Goods long player 'Lurigate Your Mind' is wowing em in the aisles, well wowing em somewhere anyway, Bugbear are very pleased to bring Johnny Moped to The Water Rats this evening, 'Cyceldelic' being an essential touchstone of avant punk fun for all us confused, bruised and barely used young punks back in 1978. “Johnny Moped had all three ingredients necessary for maximum rock ‘n’ roll: amateurism, mayhem and humour… Essential punk rock!” – Billy Childish.
3D Xmas Time Ahoy... Synchronize your diaries Tom Cats...It's only Johnny Moped at The Water Rats PLUS Jordan Mooney talking punk, Pistols, Ants and artistry with Rock N Roll Book Club and just announced the very wonderful THE WiDOWS....what a gig...tap in and get your tickets here...
Jordan : Defying Gravity. RNR Book Club Xtra X Rated - Tony Buggerbear (in ill fitting In rubber pants) will be popping the questions tonight as Jordan Mooney, the undisputed Queen Of The Ants and SEX symbol supreme discusses her incredible story at the vanguard of what we now know as 'punk'. Her amazing memoir 'Defying Gravity', written with Cathi Unsworth, is a must read, and if you haven't read it yet come along tonight and get a signed copy. plus...
STOP PRESS- Tony Drayton will join us on stage for some X Rated punk era conversation. His 'Ripped and Torn: 1976 - 79 The Loudest Punk Fanzine in the UK' documents one of the first punk fanzines, and longer lived than contemporary organs like Sniffing Glue, Ripped and Torn began in Glasgow in November 1976 and carried on into the next wave of punk. It ran for eighteen issues, all of which are faithfully reproduced in this book. By punks and for punks, Ripped and Torn is a fascinating document of the punk subculture and a sacred text of DIY culture. A perfect companion piece to Jordan's tome then. RNR Book Club bespoke DJ set by Julie Hamill and Bugbear.
