The Green Note Festival of Latin Music presents... “CANCIONES DEL CORAZON”
Mexican Cancion and Argentine Tango are amongst Latin America’s strongest popular song traditions. Stories of love, sorrow and passion, sung with heartfelt fire and tenderness. An evening of beautiful melodies and enchanting storytelling shared by two of London’s most celebrated Latin vocalists, MARTHA ACOSTA & GUILLERMO ROZENTHULER.
Colombian, Martha Acosta, is a well-established singer with a beautiful voice full of fire and emotion. Best known for her work with all-woman Latin band ‘Candela’ and Salsa-fusion band ‘Manteca’, she’s now introducing her more folkloric, unplugged side. Guitar in hand and joined by a requinto player, tonight she’ll be taking on world-famous traditional Mexican songs, with a ‘Chavela Vargas’ approach. Songs that portray the moral twilight of drunken fathers, unfaithful women and loving to the point that hurts, as sung for centuries by Mexican “trovadores”.
Argentine vocalist-guitarist, Guillermo Rozenthuler, is recognized as one of the leading voices of Tango in the UK. After his award-winning collaboration with the Orient House Ensemble, he started Rioplatenses, a quintet performing his contemporary take on Argentine folk song. In this acoustic setting he’ll be joined by the remarkable Javier FIoramonti on guitar for some powerful, heartfelt renditions of traditional tangos, waltzes and milongas. Together, they’ll recreate the feeling of a late-night bar in Buenos Aires.
PLEASE NOTE: the venue comprises both seated and standing space. There are a limited number of tables. These are allocated on a first come first served basis, with priority given to diners. If you’d like a table, please ensure you arrive early (doors open 7pm).
Music starts at 9pm. NO ENTRY AFTER 9.30pm.
