Online Talk with Tim Craven
This talk will examine the tree as a major subject in British Art history, from the early days of the native school in the 18th century, through the high Romantic Movement and the Pre-Raphaelite landscape painters of the 19th century to the Neo-Romantics of the 1940s and the Brotherhood of Ruralists of the 1970s. It will consider how the tree was employed as a motif for stylistic development and its contemporary role as a symbol of our fragile, natural environment for The Arborealists.
Tim Craven is an artist, curator and lecturer. He is a member of the London Group and founder of the group The Arborealists, artists who share the subject of the tree . Tim was Curator at Southampton City Art Gallery from 2002 to 2008 and is now chair of the Friends of Southampton Museums and Gallery (FOSMAG).
