Event information
Benji Kirkpatrick has an impeccable folk pedigree, son of the great John Kirkpatrick, ex-member of Bellowhead, current member of both Faustus and Steeleye Span and a first rate solo performer in his own right. He is a very dynamic individual and always looking for new projects to fire things up, which now takes the form of The Excess, a trio comprising of himself, fellow Bellowhead band mate Pete Flood on drums and Pete Thomas (Megan Henwood and Jackie Oates) on bass. Opting for the classic power trio line up, Benji’s writing is brought to life with a fresh, vibrant sound and is propelled in an exciting new direction. With Benji leading on bouzoukis - electric and acoustic - and guitar the band stoke up rhythm’s, riffs and uproarious, soaring melodies; sometimes cacophonous, sometimes stark and raw, sometimes sensitive, always powerful. They managed to get a few gigs in before the music industry was decimated by Covid, but now they’re back, brimming with hard hitting songs and muscular instrumentals ready for the live stage!
