Incredibly excited to be bringing Other Half to town! Their 2020 debut album Big Twenty is a violent and caustic slice of life, marrying twitching post-punk and tightly-wound hardcore with sardonic storytelling. The album charts the downward course of a handful of recurring characters and the unpleasant places they go in search of identity, community and belonging. The release garnered praise from various outlets, with The Line Of Best Fit calling Big Twenty’s vivid world ‘volatile and dark, but also enthralling to hear’. Live, the band draw from the energy and intensity of post-hardcore luminaries like Drive Like Jehu and Fugazi whilst never straying too far from the hooks of bands like Pixies and Les Say Fav.
Supporting we'll have incredible local hardcore outfit Blood Horse, Reading's noise rock duo Typical Hunks (who we've been trying to book for absolutely ages, thrilled that we've finally managed it) and the debut show for new local alt-rock band Hertz!
The gig will be 18+ and the Library has several small flights of stairs, including down to the venue room.
Please note that in order to be as open and safe as possible for all our shows for the time being we need everyone to take either a lateral flow or PCR test within 48 hours before the show and bring along proof of a negative result.
No proof = no entry
If you feel ill on the day, have been pinged or have a positive result please do not attend - either pass your tickets to a friend or reply to this email by 5pm on the day of the show for a refund. We can happily refund you for this reason before 5pm but not afterwards.
We'd like everyone to feel comfortable at our shows - hand sanitiser will be available and staff will be wearing masks and we'd encourage you to wear a mask at the show too. There will be breaks between acts to get some fresh air throughout the night.
Also, we run inclusive shows, and we want people to feel safe. Racism, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, bigotry and general dickery of any kind will not be tolerated. If you feel like you can't handle that, feel free not to come. And if you experience any of these, speak to one of us (we'll probably be hanging about the PA/door) or to venue staff.
Also, we recognise that gigs are a financial luxury that not everyone can afford. If you feel you can't afford it but would like to come, and would like to guarantee your place, please get in touch with us at freaksceneoxford@gmail.com and we will put you on a list for discounted or free entry.
