This one-off event will include the chance to see selected works from the diverse practices of the four finalists of the prestigious 2022 Arts Foundation Futures Awards for which Animation was selected as one of the five £10,000 awards this year. Savinder Bual, Sophie Koko-Gate, Mary Stark and Petra Széman will introduce in person a curated programme of their work and discuss their influences and processes concluding with a guided Q&A.
The judges for this award consist of time-based media artist Birgitta Hosea, director Johnny Kelly and artist and curator Edwin Rostron. The finalists were selected from a longlist of practitioners who were nominated by experts across the UK. The work of the finalists says Rostron, “demonstrates the great range and breadth of contemporary animation practice in the UK, and that the art form continues to exist in vibrant and exciting ways both on and beyond the screen.”

The recipient of the main award worth £10,000 will be announced at the Arts Foundation Futures Award in January 2022 with the runners up receiving £1,000 each. The award is supported by the David Collins Foundation and is part of the 2022 AFFAs which support artists from five different artforms annually. The Arts Foundation is a charity which for 30 years has been supporting individual artists with their living and working expenses while they develop their creative practice.
