Event information

Huw Williams hails from the South Wales market town of Brynmawr, and in the 90's was known for his duo with Tony (no relation) Williams. They became widely known when their songs were covered by many other artists in Europe and the USA and their close association with the likes of Ralph McTell and Fairport Convention, both of whom championed their music. They developed a very large fan base and toured theatres and festivals throughout the 1990s before performing one final tour in 2001.  Some of Huw's well-known songs include ‘The Summer Before the War’, ’Rosemary’s Sister’ and ‘I can Jump Puddles’.

TwickFolk regulars will have heard Paul Vile play a number of Huw Williams' songs over the years, and we are particularly pleased to be entice Huw all the way down the M4!

Huw toured with the Welsh band Crasdant, mostly in the USA, and is a broadcaster for the BBC, making programmes in Wales and for BBC Radio Four (he has walked the disused railways of Wales, for example). He is also a well-known (in Wales) exponent of Welsh traditional clog dancing - something he occasionally worked into live sets.

The last word goes to Ralph McTell, who once wrote: Huw is a wonderful songwriter and the amount of cover versions of his songs would make many seasoned songwriters jealous. I am personally delighted with the steady progression of their careers and I'm proud to have been associated with their growing success. When I was told the boys didn't drink that much I was quite worried, but the 'constant kettle' and cups of tea were a great comfort on the road. (http://huwandtonywilliams.weebly.com/about.html).

John Prosser was born in the Iron town of Tredegar and spent his formative years growing up in the valleys, in a South East Wales mining community. He is familiar to TwickFolk regulars, as his accompanist, our very own Paul Vile. As well as being TwickFolk's chairman and regular MC, Paul Vile is a singer, multi-instrumentalist and and sound engineer. He currently plays guitar for Clogiron.
John and Paul have played as a duo for many years. "The Girl Always Wins", their first album together was launched at TwickFolk in 2019.
John has also published a music-based novel: The Cool, Coal and Black Lightning, a gothic comedy thriller, set in the fictional mining village of Glwm in the dying months of 1962.
