Bartalk, is a cross genre monodrama for speaking drummer and string quartet which explores the psychological stresses caused by solitary confinement.
Sean Noonan has long preferred the term “Rhythmic Storyteller” to describe his audacious, genre-defiant artistry. As a modern-day sonic griot he combines the most ancient of traditions with forward-seeking experimentation; as a kind of post-modern wandering minstrel he gathers irreverent folk tales and offbeat inspirations from various cultures and translates them through his own singular worldview. His music is informed by an eclectic variety of influences, rock opera, avant-garde chamber music, harmolodic jazz-rock, and aleatoric comprovisation
Noonan will again partner with the Ligeti Quartet and other musical friends for one of the drummer/composer’s most ambitious projects to date, the multi-media piece Isolation. Commissioned by the Arts Council of England, PRS for Music, and Forestry England, Isolation addresses the issue of solitary confinement — a long-held concern for the composer that has only come into sharper focus during the pandemic era.
Sean Noonan will be well known to Jazzlive regulars for his incredible performances over the years at The Crypt. If you were lucky enough to witness "The Hub" in full flow in the early 00's or any of the more recent fine ensembles he has brought, including 'Picnic in Snow' in 2019, you will know what to expect at The Bartalk concert.
The full line up are:-
Sean Noonan (drums, voice and compositions)

Matthew Bourne (Fender Rhodes / church organ)
