The Salford Lads outta NYC play the music of The Smiths, and then some. Tonight also featuring guest vocals from the Mozza of Californian Health and Beauty of fellow Smithsonians The Sweet and Tender Hooligans, Mr. Jose Maldonado. Sadly original Lads lead singer, Jesse Immler (AKA DJ Jess Marquis), unexpectedly passed away in 2015, but his post will be very well served by Jose no doubt.
The Lads say- 'Our excitement level; Our love for Morrissey and The Smiths remains as strong today as it did in 1999 when the band first formed—twenty
years on, to be able to continue to celebrate the music in The Smiths’ hometown of Manchester (and Camden Town) is something special, and the
momentousness is not lost on us. We are truly truly excited.
What makes us different from other tribute acts: The Salford Lads were formed to fill a void. We were all too young to have seen The
Smiths, and we know that when one experiences a Morrissey show in person, the yearning for another begins the moment the house lights
turn back on. For us, it was never about a note-for-note recreation, or a karaoke costume show. It was always about the music—playing the
songs that saved your life the way they were meant to be heard—loud, live, and amongst friends'- Bravo! This is an absolute must of a night out for all Morrissey/Marr heads young and old.
