Henry Parker describes his style as ‘Yorkshire psych-folk’ – indeed, it’s a part of the country seems to be at the epicentre of the current crop of indie folkiness. His second album ‘Lammas Fair’ has clearly brought him to the forefront of the progressive folk music world. Heralded by Prog Magazine, MOJO, UNCUT and Folk Radio alike it is on this release that Parker has honed a style that MOJO describes as ‘effectively blending ancient, early 70’s and modern sounds’. He’s spent the past five years, releasing two critically acclaimed albums, touring and opening for his musical heroes, including Lau and the [now sadly passed] very influential Michael Chapman.
‘His relaxed vocals and song writing are as warm and open as his tunings’ - UNCUT Magazine 8/10
‘Channelling the ghosts of Bert Jansch and John Renbourn through his fingertips, the fluid playing and emotive singing of Yorkshire-born Henry Parker evokes the spirit of the early-60’s folk revival as if it were yesterday.” – RnR Magazine ★★★★★
‘Original material and traditional songs create an immersive world in which both the peace and isolation of nature are unfurled evoked through subtle arrangements’ - Prog Magazine
Now five albums in, DAVID IAN ROBERTS takes inspiration from great acoustic guitarists such as Nick Drake and Elliott Smith and brings in elements of classical and jazz. His lyrical imagery finds parallels between our emotional landscapes and the natural world.
‘Travelling Bright is a quietly exceptional album, dreamy and intimate, but borne up on rich elaborate arrangements…. Roberts writes deeply introspective songs, and renders them in rich orchestrated widescreen… dreamlike soliloquies, steeped in mythology and the natural landscape, and presented with an airy spaciousness that carves out avenues for the mind to wander.’ - UNCUT Magazine
‘From The Harbour is a gently seductive joy which reveals new depths on every listen. A quiet masterpiece….A contemplative and understated classic already.…One of the records I’ll cherish in the future…I recommend this record to you unreservedly’ – Mark Radcliffe, BBC Radio 2.
