Fuelled by a passion for social justice, folklore, and feminism, Kim Edgar crafts keenly observed details of people’s lives into powerful, understated songs that reach out and touch listeners.
Whether that’s the uncertainty of a person grappling with whether love truly conquers all, the bewildering feelings of invisibility of a child in a refugee camp, or the unfettered hopes of a mother for her unborn baby, Kim steps in the shoes of others, exploring contemporary social issues with an open heart. Her fourth solo album, Held, which is out now, considers grief, addiction, and solidarity.
“[Kim Edgar] will charm you, upset you, give you hope and make you think… probably one of the best songwriters in Britain today.” * * * * * (Spiral Earth)
Kim also writes scores for theatre, and is a member of the European folk band, CARA, where she plays piano and sings traditional songs and tunes from Scotland and Ireland alongside her own original material.
“Kim’s music is difficult to categorise…her vocal delivery, however, was outstanding and her musicianship on both piano and guitar exemplary… gorgeous voice where every word came over as clear as crystal.” (Maverick)
“Strong melodic hooks paired to bittersweet musings, shafts of optimism and some Angela Carter moments when the mirror cracks and the bitter stuff of fairytales seeps through.” * * * * (The Scotsman)
