Community Film Night: Cnocan Burraidh, its People and History

Told by local people in an enjoyable format, come along to the launch of the community films introducing the Grants Of Shewglie and Glen Urquhart.

1. Advance of the Grants – when did the Grants come to Glen Urquhart, what was the history of the area and what was the significance of Cnocan Burriadh area. An artistic interpretation of what the area may have looked like is provided and narration provided by local artist Marjory Tait.
2. The Battle of Corrie Buidhe – the story told in verse, written by Janis Clark, about James Grant the 3rd of Shewglie who was killed at the battle of Coire Buidhe on the 27th June 1689.
3. Culloden and Loss of Fortunes – Patrick Grant and 80 men from Glen Urquhart fought as Jacobite supporters in the Battle of Culloden in 1745. Find out about how they were betrayed by the Hanovarian, Ludovic Grant. Presented by Chris Grant, direct descendant of the Grants of Shewglie.
4. India and the Return of Fortunes – an introduction to two battles in India that Patrick, Alexander and Hugh were involved in after Culloden. When they returned to the Glen they set about rebuilding their homes. Then enjoy a visit around the houses in the Glen that were important to the Grants.
5. Shinty – find out what a Camach was, and how shinty has developed since those early days when Patrick Grant of Redcastle organsied one – you may well recognise some local players past and present in the photos and presentations.
6. Cnocan Burriadh Burial Site – narrated by Fraser Mackenzie - come into the burial site and hear more about its formation, earlier restoration and about Hugh Grant of Moy, Sir Charles Grant, Sir Theodore Chambers and the beautiful obituary to Jane Hannay Grant.
