A Comfort of Voices - Songs of Love and Hope
These last two years have been a strange period of lockdowns, mask-wearing, testing, anxiety and hardship. Many of us have lost social contacts, seen our own plans evaporate and sometimes tragically lost friends or loved ones.
Our programme acknowledges this shared personal adversity in all its forms; but importantly also highlights the positives from this extraordinary period. The strength of community spirit which emerged everywhere; the acts of kindness and the huge care we took to keep each other safe, whether family, neighbours or strangers. Having faced loneliness, grief and the reality of our own mortality, we had to find new ways to live our lives and to continue to experience joy, for example through singing. The ancient practice of using our voices in harmony to share compassion, strength, fellowship and hope has been powerfully reinvigorated.
Since we first planned this concert the invasion of Ukraine has forced us all to witness further human suffering, adding a further painful resonance to today’s music.
We hope this concert will truly bring performers and audience alike a Comfort of Voices, sharing love and hope with all.
