Singer-songwriter pianist Jeffery Straker grew up taking piano lessons in a small farming town on the Canadian prairies, and has gone on to perform over 100 shows per year across Canada, Europe and Latin America. The storytelling nature of his songs has the power to paint pictures and transport a listener - out onto a lake in an old canoe or to the main street of his home town. His music sits at the intersection of contemporary singer-songwriter, folk and roots genres with critical comparisons being drawn to the likes of Harry Chapin, Kris Kristofferson, & Billy Joel.
Performances have seen him live on CBC Radio, on stage with symphony orchestras, before festival crowds and in backyards across the country on a recent pandemic summer tour.
“He has a way of drawing us into his world and making us feel like we’re a welcome guest; an old friend he’s ready to catch up with” (CBC Radio)
With a career spanning 16 years and 8 albums Jeffery’s songs have been used in TV & film (and even in a theatrical production) and saw him named “Roots-Folk Artist of the Year” in both the 2020 & 2021 Saskatchewan Music Awards. He was named ‘Keyboard Player of the Year’ in the 2020 Saskatchewan Country Music Awards & took home a Western Canadian Music Award in 2019. With a focus on making music that makes listeners think, he underscores it all with a message of hope. He released his latest 10-song recording “Just Before Sunrise” in May 2021 and supported it with 55 concerts in his summer-long “Pandemic Piano Backyard Tour”. The album was voted as #2 in the Saskatchewan Music Awards Best Albums of 2021 rankings, by music lovers across the province.
