Welcome to Sundemonium '22

A Sunday of inspiring and intriguing contemporary prog, curated by The Wood Demons, with our guests The Far Meadow, The Ruby Dawn, Paradise 9 and Jon Hunt.

THE WOOD DEMONS

From their beginnings in South-West London a decade ago, The Wood Demons have been developing their eclectic and distinctive take on contemporary prog, creating songs on an epic scale with powerful melodies, spiralling violin, lush Mellotron soundscapes and molten guitars.
The Wood Demons are Simon Carbery (gtr/voc), Rick Startin (gtr/kbd/voc) Naomi Belshaw (violin) Ed Kontargyris (drums) and John Silver (bass)
“Angels of Peckham Rye is the first full-length album release by London-based band, THE WOOD DEMONS, and is one of the most refreshing progressive rock albums I have heard for some time. The group have an intriguing, eclectic and quite unique mix of styles, with elements of progressive rock, folk, psychedelia, alternative rock, ambient and classical/cinematic touches. All of these diverse elements come across in this vibrant, dynamic and beautiful album.” (David Edwards, The Progressive Aspect)

THE FAR MEADOW

The Far Meadow is a five-piece progressive rock band from London. Now established as one of the premier live progressive acts, TFM has stepped out with the likes of Caravan, Carl Palmer, Curved Air, Focus, Gong, Uriah Heep, and most recently with Soft Machine’s John Etheridge, Solstice and The Enid, at ecological charity event Prog the Forest, Fusion 3.5 and cancer fundraiser Prog For Peart respectively.
With Marguerita Alexandrou's dramatic and distinctive vocals, Eliot Minn's enchanting and captivating keyboards, Jon Barry reproducing Denis Warren's impossibly radiant guitar work, all underpinned by the incredible rhythmic weave supplied by Paul Bringloe and Keith Buckman, TFM forges an astonishing and exciting array of musical textures.
Drawing from latest release Foreign Land (Bad Elephant 2019), the much-vaunted 2016 cd Given The Impossible, and Where Joys Abound (2012), TFM’s explosive live set is peppered with classics, including the sensational epics Travelogue and Foreign Land, while songs such as Sulis Rise, Himalaya Flashmob, Prove It and The Seamless Shirt herald a new and revelatory era.

THE RUBY DAWN

Ruby Dawn perform hypnotic, powerful, and often ambient songs with a social conscience. The listener is taken on a haunting, captivating journey as the band weave a rich and unique progressive musical tapestry with their Floyd-esque sound, combining emotional intensity with captivating lyrical expressions and goosebump-inducing, heart-pounding drive.
Ruby Dawn are currently working on their first album release, 'Beyond Tomorrow'.
The band are:
Carola Baer - vocals, keyboards
Dave Salsbury - lead guitar (both formerly with alt-prog band Quiet Wish)
Ian Turner -bass
Adam Perry -drums.

PARADISE 9

Paradise 9 are a four- piece rock band based in London and Brighton. Formed in 1997 by Gregg McKella, they released their first album “Showtime” in 1998.
In 2017 they celebrated their 20th anniversary, with an extended set at the Half Moon in Putney and came with the release of their live double 20th Anniversary 1997 ~ 2017 CD.
Their music brings a chilled yet punchy approach to the rock genre sound, taking inspiration from psychedelic bands like Hawkwind, Pink Fairies, Ozric Tenticles, Gong and Here & Now while fusing proto and post punk from the Ramones through to the Clash, while fusing with Wire and Psychedelic Furs.
To date they have 3 studio albums ‘Showtime’ (1998) and ‘Take Me to the Future’ (2013), a live CD ‘Live at the Amersham Arms 2014’, a DVD ‘Live at On-board the Craft 2013’ and last year’s 20th Anniversary 1997 ~ 2017 CD , and their new studio album “Science Fiction Reality”, was been released on Flicknife Records in 2021, and is already receiving some great reviews and radio airplay.

"Challenging, deft and understated space rock for 2021 and generations beyond." - Guy Shankland - Vive Le Rock
" Tremendous space rock with an intelligent and optimistic zen-punk message” - It’s Psychedelic Baby! Magazine
" If Paradise 9 had been around back in the day, then surely their space-punk vibe would have made them great stablemates for the likes of Inner City Unit, Underground Zero, and yes, Hawkwind themselves, on the 1980s Flicknife roster. Fast forward to 2021, and how fantastic to see them join the resurgent Flicknife label now! Sharp indeed!" Ian Abrahams, RC

JON HUNT
Jon's music is often described as 'quintessentially English', sometimes evoking the likes of XTC, Steven Wilson, Doves, The Jam and Genesis. It's also eclectic in style ranging across genres including alternative rock, pop, progressive rock, acoustic, psychedelia, and electronic/ambient.
Jon is also singer/guitarist/writer in Carcrash Casino, whose debut album was released in December 2020 to overwhelmingly positive reviews.
