Leading UK pianist ( and singer ) Jonathan Gee presents Ohisashiburi, created in early 2018 between himself and 3 great musicians from the Puglia region of southern Italy. It features the new rising star of Italian jazz on alto sax, Gaetano Partipilo with one of the most dynamic rhythm sections on the European stage today, Guiseppe Bassi on double bass and Fabio Accardi on drums. The repertoire combines their own compositions as well as the reimagining of Beatles tunes and classic jazz repertoire . Jonathan Gee, originally awarded ‘ Most promising newcomer ‘ in the British Jazz Awards, is one of the leading pianist/singers on the UK jazz scene, appearing at for instance New York’s Lincoln Centre, Shanghai
Jazz Festival, Ronnie Scotts and BBC’s In Tune, and he has 10 self penned cds to his name. He has worked with Mike Westbrook, Art Farmer, Joe Lovano, Pharoah Sanders, Mark Murphy,Tony Kofi and Nasheet Waits.
Gaetano Partipilo is known for an original style characterised by a strong mixture of avant- garde and tradition. His recent acclaimed albums are Daylight released by the godfather of Italian jazz, Paolo Fresu, and the debut album of his current project Boom Collective. He has played with everybody from Jason Moran to Dee Dee Bridgewater to Billy Cobham.
Guiseppe Bassi, one of the most in demand bassists in Italy for the last 20 years has a number of highly praised albums to his name as well as having graced the bands of for instance Lew Tabackin and pianists Dado Moroni, John Hicks and Mal Waldron. He has recently been touring extensively with his incredible Atomic Bass Trio featuring pianist Sumire Kuribayashi.
Fabio Accardi has been heard at North Sea Jazz, in Chicago and Paris Festivals, toured Africa and China, and has 13 albums out as leader or co-leader, particularly with his acclaimed band Precious. He also runs his own record label. He has collaborated with Toquino, Steve Lacy, Greg Osby, Chiara Civello, Paolo Fresu, John Escreet, Logan Richardson, Rosario Guiliani and many others.
