LUCY & ANDREW first met while performing with the award-winning 'Eliza Carthy and the Wayward Band' ('Best Band in Europe', Songlines). At the end of those tours, they fostered their close bond throughout the coming years to not only remain close friends, but also to encourage each other's musical passions. The culmination of this close bond resulted in a merging of their musical ideas to create 'Calm the Lions' in 2020. They embarked on a successful UK tour together, quickly followed by additional gigs and tours around the UK and France.
Finding an international audience among artists such like Julia Jackman, Emily Portman, the Unthanks and the Weather Station, 2017 'BBC Radio 2 Folk Award' winner Lucy Farrell is not only awarded as a renowned composer and singer, but also as a viola, fiddle and tenor guitar player. Odd, unconventional melodies, poetic, sophisticated song-writing and a bewitching clarity beautifully blend together to create the perfect recipe for an artist currently at the forefront of contemporary English folk music.
'BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year' finalist and 'Up and Coming Act of the Year' (Na Trads) nominee Andrew Waite is well established as one of the UK's most accomplished accordion players. He currently plays with groundbreaking folk band 'Dallahan' ('Folk band of the year' nominees, Na Trads) and innovative European neo-trad folk sensation 'Fourth Moon'. More recently he has also been carving his name as a solo instrumentalist within the UK and European music circuits. Andrew's music takes influence from traditional Irish and Scottish music while injecting flavours of jazz, bluegrass and classical to create a truly unique sound.
PHIL LANGRAN has just released his latest album, ‘Falling Light’, on 2nd September 2022. It sees him again working with producers Boo Hewerdine and Chris Pepper at Saltwell Studio, the venue for his 2019 work, ‘Skywriting’. Boo joins Phil on acoustic guitar and vocals, adding delicate textures on harmonium, piano, and celeste. The stripped down, subtle production features appearances by noted guests: Gustaf Ljunggren on slide guitar, Aaron Catlow on fiddle and Pete Harvey on cello. All but one of the twelve songs is a recent work, largely composed in the twilight zone of necessary isolation. The exception, ‘Dunmanus Bay’, was written in the late 1980s and has proved to be a perennial favourite with audiences and fellow performers.
